ACE MATHEMATICIANS – Fractions

6P were making links between fractions, decimals and percentages this morning – recapping key Y5 learning, whilst in the throes of our Y6 Fractions unit. As a class, we had in-depth discussions explaining our answers using reasoning, which the children thoroughly enjoyed. In the pictures, the children were having a ‘prove it’ challenge in pairs, proving that 125% = 1 1/4 = 1.25.

ACE READERS – Book Club Launch

What an exciting afternoon to finish off our Autumn 1 term in Year 6, the launch of our Book Club! 6P were placed into groups of 4-6, forming a ‘Book Club’ of their own, which will stay the same throughout Year 6! In today’s session, we enjoyed hot chocolate whilst reading our books and each member was given some time to summarise/feedback on their current book. Children were given question prompts and used their flourishing oracy skills to create some really engaging, thoughtful discussions! We also came up with lots of ideas for our weekly Book Club sessions moving forward – 6P & myself are very excited by this all!

Eden Camp – ACE HISTORIANS

What an amazing trip. 6P have been thoroughly absorbed in their learning about WW2 in the classroom and this resulted in real enthusiasm for and during our trip at Eden Camp! The children had in-depth conversations about their existing learning, then combined this with the knowledge during the trip, which made for excellent conversation between them as historians. From the U-Boat, to the Blitz, Women’s effort in the war to discovering real life artefacts from that time – it was a day enjoyed by all!
